Tanzania can be visited all year. The long dry season from June to October brings excellent game viewing as animals gather around rivers and waterholes, and is the best time for the southern and western parks such as Nyerere, Ruaha and Katavi.
From January to March the Great Migration calves around Ndutu in the southern Serengeti. The long rains of April and May turn the landscapes green, with fewer visitors, while the short rains of November and December are usually brief showers.
Wildebeest, zebra and gazelle move in a year-round loop through the Serengeti–Mara ecosystem in search of grass and water — and predators follow close behind.

Central Serengeti
As the long rains fall, the herds begin moving north-west in long columns through green landscapes.

Grumeti River
The herds gather in the west and face their first river crossings.

Northern Serengeti
The famous crossings of the Mara River — dramatic and unpredictable.

Eastern Serengeti
With the short rains the herds move back south towards the calving plains.
