Formerly part of the Selous Game Reserve, Nyerere is a hidden gem of rivers, lakes and woodland where game drives, walks and boat safaris all come together.
Nyerere National Park, carved from the northern part of the former Selous Game Reserve, is a less crowded wilderness centred on the Rufiji River and its network of lakes and channels. It is one of the few parks where you can combine game drives with boat safaris and guided walks with a ranger.
On the water you will see hippos, basking crocodiles and abundant birdlife such as the African skimmer, fish eagle and giant kingfisher. On land, look for elephant, buffalo, giraffe, zebra, impala, lion and one of Africa’s most important populations of wild dogs.
