Explored exclusively on foot, Udzungwa’s rainforests protect rare endemic species and the spectacular Sanje waterfall above the Kilombero Valley.
Part of the ancient Eastern Arc Mountains, Udzungwa is a place of rolling forested hills, rivers and waterfalls. There are no roads inside the park — it is explored entirely on hiking trails, the most popular leading to the Sanje waterfall with views across the Kilombero Valley.
The forests are a biodiversity hotspot and home to species found nowhere else, including the Sanje mangabey and the Udzungwa red colobus, as well as the rufous-winged sunbird.
